Mathematics was a large part of Campbell Naismith's, the founder of Vortex Street Music and Vortex Street Music Philanthropy, Inc., life and career. Through his time at various teaching institutions he garnered the admiration of both his peers and his students. 2016 will be the first year that the Campbell Naismith Mathematics Award will be given at Chula Vista High School through the support of Mr. Chang Lee, a former mathematics student of Campbell's.  Starting in 2017 the Campbell Naismith Mathematics Award will be given in addition to the Irene Naismith Mathematics Award at Crawford High School.
